The Deputy Governor of Sokoto state, Manir Dan’iya has revealed that the administration of Aminu Tambuwal has been committed to the payment of  examination fees of indigenous students and that of resident communities in the state.

Dan’Iya told the executive members of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria chapter of the Sokoto State Student Association who paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday.

The deputy governor also said in a statement by the Director Press, Aminu Abubakar on Thursday, that eligible students of the two categories, are awarded scholarships to enable them further their education either at home or abroad.

The gesture, according to him, are geared towards boosting education at all levels in the state.

Dan’Iya, who was conferred with an award of excellence as ‘Promoter Of Tambuwal’s Agenda on Education For All in Sokoto,’ said education has been having a large chunk of the state’s annual budget since 2015.

“This shows how committed our Governor is to the upliftment of education in the state, where school fees and scholarships are free to Sokoto indigenes from basic to tertiary levels.

“All these are in addition to the building of schools for basic and tertiary education across the state, just as overseas scholarships grants are paid up to PhD level for the state indigenes,” the statement reads.

He admonished the students to re-dedicate themselves to their studies in order to complement the efforts of their parents and government, both of who plough huge amounts of money into their education.

He also dedicated the award to governor Tambuwal who he described as the ‘Champion of Education’ in the State.

Speaking earlier, President of the ABU Zaria chapter of the Students Association, Comrade Tambari Waziri said Tambuwal’s administration has done a lot in the education sector in Sokoto.

Describing the Dan’Iya as a strong promoter of Tambuwal’s drive in education, Tambari said this was why the association decided to honor him.

“We are living witnesses to Governor Tambuwal’s zeal in promoting education in Sokoto while other state governments no longer pay school fees or grant scholarships to their indigenes,” he said.
